Window World of Tidewater Matches More than a Ton of Food Donations for the Extreme Food Drive in Conjunction with ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Sundays 8 ǀ 7c on ABC

TIDEWATER, Va. – Pound for pound, Window World of Tidewater matched food donations dropped off at their new showroom location and added 189 pounds to sweeten the deal in conjunction with the Extreme Food Drive and their participation in ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Local residents could double their donation by bringing their goods to Window World and many did – totaling 2,097 pounds of food.

"If you've never seen what a literal ton of food looks like, you would be amazed. Even 189 pounds of food looks massive stacked on top of one of our windows. This is a true testament to the 'giving back' nature of our customers and residents here in Hampton Roads," says Josh Reed, the President of Window World of Tidewater. "We agreed to double donations without having any idea of the amount we would take in. Our showroom is expansive and we have a very large warehouse so we were prepared. It felt good knowing we were a part of contributing over 2 tons of food toward the cause."

After matching 2,097 pounds of food and adding 189 pounds it is estimated that Window World of Tidewater was instrumental in contributing over $5500 in food donations. Early indications look favorable that the 306,000 pound goal set by the Foodbanks of Southeastern Virginia, the Virginia Peninsula and of the Albemarle was achieved, which will make it not only the largest food drive in the history of Hampton Roads but also the largest ever conducted in conjunction with an Extreme Makeover build.

"The theme of the Extreme Makeover build was 'It's Our Time to Make a Difference'," says Reed. "I think it goes without saying that we not only made an enormous difference with the new home build for Beverly Hill, Fred Burdette and their six adopted daughters, but we also made a difference in the fight against hunger for thousands of families throughout Tidewater."
